It was an exciting day yesterday for MARS’ Executive Director, Tonya Wimmer, as she visited friends and colleagues with Research Casting International in Trenton, Ontario. We’ve worked with owner and founder, Peter May, and his incredible team for many years to collect and preserve whale skeletons for displays in museums and institutions, continuing their and MARS' conservation legacies. It’s been an exciting time - for the last two years, the RCI team has been busy working up two blue whales MARS and partners investigated when they came ashore dead in Nova Scotia in 2017 and 2021. These beautiful animals are being prepped for display, including one which will be the centerpiece of the new Beaty Centre for Marine Biodiversity to be opened at Dalhousie University in 2025! And this is no small undertaking - at 67 and 83 feet in length it is fascinating to see the incredible work being done with such care and respect by the RCI team. We’re excited and proud to be working with RCI and other partners to ensure the stories of these individuals and their endangered populations continue to be told and can inspire the next generation of scientists and those working in conservation! #bluewhale #whaleconservation #tellingwhaletales ...
